Darrell Bachmann was interviewed by NBC Sports' Jimmy Roberts during the recent PGA Tour Accenture Match Play Championship at the Ritz-Carleton Golf Club in Marana Arizona. He also had the opportunity to get the opinions of a couple of well known PGA Tour personalities.

Traction Technology™

KickSpike ™ Traction Technology began life as a way to give golfers the superior traction of a metal spike, without damaging the greens. This is what "soft spikes" were supposed to do, but professional course superintendents (like KickSpike inventor, Darrell Bachmann) will tell you that as they've evolved, softspikes actually do more damage. While 70 percent of Pro's prefer metal spikes, they can leave spike holes on greens literally costing them thousands of dollars.

Traction footwear is like many things in life; "you only need it when you need it". When you don't need it, it's a nuisance. But when you do; it's indispensible! And therein lies the brilliance of the KickSpike™ innovation; they're retractable.

"A Prototype Shoe In Action"
The KickSpike Technology™ consists of a positive mechanical mechanism, which extends and retracts a replaceable metal spike from the sole of whatever footwear it's in. You can either deploy or retract the spikes quickly, effortlessly and without bending over; with a touch of a button on the rear of the shoe. Retracting the spikes cleans grass, dirt chunks and other foreign debris from the sole of the shoe. In the case of golf shoes, it allows the user to walk on the greens without doing any damage. Extended, the metal spikes give optimum grip on the rest of the course. The same principals apply to KickSpike-equipped boot and leisure footwear in the case of ice covered walkways. KickSpike's unique traction technology has a patent pending worldwide.

While the innovative design was inspired by golf, it is applicable to any situation where traction footwear is required on demand. Injuries or death from 'slip and fall' accidents are common and costly. Research shows that:
  • there were 303,800 workplace fall injuries in 2000 alone
  • the US Dept of Labour reports that 15% of incidental workplace deaths are caused by slips and falls (second only to traffic accident / fatalities )
  • nearly 12 million people slip and fall each year in the US (with the majority of those seeking medical attention due of their injuries).
  • over 300,000 disabling injuries occur from slip and falls annually - average cost $20,000
Whether for Sports, Work, Services (Military / Police), Outdoor or Casual applications where traction is required, the key is ease of use and convenience. Having on demand Traction Technology means it will be instantly available when required. In the end, it will be KickSpike's convenience attribute that makes it indispensible no matter where or when it is required.
